You've just moved to Fresno, California. You don't know anyone. You're not familiar with the city. You're bored. What should you do? Turn on the TV or radio of course! We're not talking about the Discovery Channel or NBC though. It won't help you to listen to the American Top 20 or watch the "How it's Made" episode on organic diapers. We're talking about local radio and TV stations. They're chock full of helpful information for residents of Fresno.
News
Local news is one of the most important things to keep up to date on, especially if you're new to the city. Hearing about the motions put forward by local politicians, the region's weather, what students at the schools are up to, and even the ads for local mortgage lenders will help you create a mental landscape of Fresno. You'll learn the names of places, prominent people, and businesses, find out what areas of the city to avoid, and even get tips on how to live your life better.
Community Events
While the news will help you form a mental landscape of Fresno, the community events bulletins on local TV and radio will help you join it. Tune in to hear what events are happening where, choose some that sound interesting to you, and go! You'll meet your new neighbors, make new friends, and learn something new. Haven't you always wanted to learn how to run the best home based business or eat a pancake breakfast made by elementary school students?
Radio Stations to Listen to
Radio stations from all over California can be picked up on any normal radio, and with so much music and ads for contemporary bathroom vanities it can be hard to know where the station is coming from unless you happen to tune in while they're spouting their masthead. To help cut down on your dial searching, here are some local Fresno radio stations. 88.1 KFCF is non corporate, so it's your best bet for local info, there are also 32 FM and 15 AM stations including 580 KMJ, the oldest station in town, and Top 40 station 97.1 KSEQ.
TV Stations to Watch
Fresno has only UHF TV stations due to interference from San Francisco Bay networks, so you won't be able to tune in to Ontario stations for news of the OAA. There are 16 stations including NBC affiliate KSEE channel 24 and the Spanish language Telemundo KNSO channel 51.
